Microsoft replaced its product-version certifications with a role-based programme built around job functions: administrator, developer, engineer, architect, analyst and consultant. Each exam maps to a published skills-measured outline that is revised on a fixed cadence, and the outline is the single most useful study document available.
Exams are scored from 1 to 1,000 with a pass mark of 700. That is a scaled score, not a percentage, so it does not map cleanly to "70% correct". Most role-based exams run around 100 minutes and mix multiple choice with drag-and-drop ordering, build-list and multi-question case studies.
Associate and expert credentials expire after one year but renew free of charge through an unproctored online assessment on Microsoft Learn. Fundamentals credentials do not expire.
