Entirely hands-on certifications: every Red Hat exam is a timed lab where you configure real systems and are graded on the resulting state.
Red Hat exams are performance-based without exception. There are no multiple-choice questions: you are given a set of live systems and a task list, and grading is automated against the end state of those systems. Either the service runs as specified or it does not.
That format makes Red Hat credentials unusually well respected — and unusually hard to cram for. Speed matters, because most candidates who fail run out of time rather than knowledge.
The ladder starts at RHCSA, which is a prerequisite for RHCE and for most specialist credentials. Passing enough specialist exams on top of RHCE earns the Red Hat Certified Architect title. Certifications are current for three years.
