Both AZ-800 and AZ-801 are required. AZ-800 covers core infrastructure — Active Directory, hybrid identity, virtual machines, networking and file services — while AZ-801 covers hardening, clustering, disaster recovery, migration and troubleshooting.
The pair reflects how most Windows estates actually run: partly on-premises, partly in Azure, joined by hybrid identity and Azure Arc.
This is the natural credential for administrators who are not moving to a cloud-only role but need to prove they can run the hybrid version competently.
