Exams are organised into four tiers — foundational, associate, professional and specialty — and each one is scored on a scaled 100–1,000 range rather than a raw percentage, which is why the pass marks look unusual at first glance.
The programme is deliberately role-based. Architect exams ask you to choose between services under cost and resilience constraints, developer exams focus on SDK behaviour and deployment mechanics, and operations exams test monitoring, automation and incident response. Specialty exams go deep on a single domain such as networking, security or machine learning.
Certifications remain valid for three years. Recertifying at a higher tier automatically extends any lower-tier credential in the same track, which is why most people plan a two- or three-exam path rather than a single exam.
